Suicide bombers in Iraq have killed more than 100 people in attacks against Shi'ite pilgrims in the south and police recruits in the west.
The deadliest attack was in the western city of Ramadi, where a suicide bomber wired with explosives attacked hundreds of young police recruits lined up to apply for jobs. At least 60 people were killed and 40 were wounded.
Earlier, in the Shi'ite holy city of Karbala, at least 49 people were killed and dozens more wounded by another suicide bomber . He blew himself up in a busy shopping area near the Imam Hussein mausoleum -- one of Shi'ite Islam's holiest shrines.
Also, the U.S. military says five American soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near their patrol in Baghdad today-Thursday.
The latest violence comes as Iraqi leaders try to form a coalition government.
