A Thai-based organization working to improve conditions in Burmese prisons says a political prisoner has died in northern Burma.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, Burma said in a statement today that Khin Maung Lwin died Wednesday in Putao.
The group says the 38-year old prisoner had suffered from a number of medical ailments, but had been denied proper medical attention.
Khin Maung Lwin had reportedly been jailed twice. His most recent confinement began in 1998 on charges of illegally publishing a letter he wrote to Burma's military junta.
