Officials in the Philippines say a stampede outside a sports stadium in Manila has killed at least 73 people and injured more than 350 others.
Earlier, authorities had put the death toll at 88 but revised it due to double counting amid the confusion.
Officials say thousands of people were waiting to get into the stadium to watch a popular game show when the mayhem erupted early today-Saturday. Almost all the victims were women.
It is not immediately clear what caused the stampede. A government spokesman says President Gloria Arroyo will order an investigation to find out who is responsible.
A local official the executive director of the Metro Manila Development Authority Lito Vergel said someone in the crowd was believed to have shouted there was a bomb. But others say the stampede occurred in the rush to get tickets for the show.
