Burmese officials says the Euro will replace the dollar in border trade with neighboring countries.
Burmese finance minister Hla Tun was qouted in "The Voice Weekly," as saying dollar accounts of Burmese merchants will be replaced with Euro accounts.
This is the first time the government has implemented the policy which dates back to 2003. At that time, the Burmese cabinet decided that government organizations and private enterprises would use the Euro for trade with bordering countries China,
Thailand, India, Bangladesh and Laos as well as the currency of the countries concerned.
