An Indian Nagaland separatist leader says at least 10 Burmese soldiers and two Naga rebels were killed Tuesday in fighting inside Burma.
Naga leader Kughalo Mulatonu says the fighting took place in the thick jungles of Burma's northern Sagaing Division.
He said more than 300 Burmese soldiers demolished one of the Naga bases at the Indian-Burmese border, using mortars and heavy weapons.
There was no independent verification or confirmation by Burmese authorities.
The rebels are fighting for an independent tribal homeland in India's northeastern state of Nagaland, which borders Burma.
Some 4,000 rebels are running about 50 camps in Burma's thick jungles to evade Indian soldiers, and Burma has promised India to crack down on the rebels.
