A state-run newspaper in Burma reports the government has condemned Taiwan's decision to abolish a council aimed at unifying the island with mainland China.
"The New Light of Myanmar" reported Saturday the military-ruled government considers Taiwan's decision unacceptable and says it could undermine peace and stability in the region.
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian last week said his government would stop funding the National Unification Council and scrap guidelines for reunification with China.
Burma, a close ally of Beijing, considers Taiwan a part of China.
Burmese Prime Minister Soe Win visited China last month and sealed a series of economic deals to boost bilateral ties.
