A top leader in Burma's military junta is in Russia Monday on an official visit to Moscow.
Vice Senior General Maung Aye, who is vice chairman of Burma's State Peace and Development Council and commander-in-chief of the army, and Russian officials are expected to discuss cooperative efforts to combat drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism.
The Burmese general is traveling with a party of senior officials responsible for foreign affairs, science, stock farming, economics, energy and fisheries.
The Russian Foreign Ministry says strengthening ties with Burma is one of Moscow's foreign-policy aims in Southeast Asia.
