The international press freedom group, Reporters Without Borders, and the Burma Media Association are initiating a fax campaign to free the imprisoned Burmese journalist, U Win Tin.
Reporters Without Borders said Monday that it will be targeting Burmese embassies throughout the world with faxed petitions calling for U Win Tin's release.
July fourth marks the 17th anniversary of U Win Tin's detention on a charge of "anti-government propaganda." He is serving a 20 year sentence, but Burmese authorities announced in July of last year that he would be released.
Reporters Without Borders says the 76 year old U Win Tin has been deprived of appropriate medical care for heart and blood pressure problems and an inflamed prostate.
