A passenger plane has crashed today shortly after take-off from the Lexington airport in Kentucky.
Federal aviation authorities say 50 people were on board the jet and there have been significant fatalities.
An airport official Executive Director Michael Gobb says ComAir flight 5191 experienced difficulty on departure and crashed about two kilometers from the runway. He said one crash victim was taken to a hospital.
The official said the aircraft a Bombardier CRJ was on a flight to Atlanta, Georgia.
A witness said he heard an explosion early and saw a bright light near the airport at the time of the crash.
U.S. government officials were investigating the cause of the cause of the crash.
