Iraqi police say a bomb blast has killed at least 31 people in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood.
Officials say at least 24 others were wounded in today's explosion near a kerosene fuel truck in the mainly Shi'ite district. The attack came as Sunni Muslims in Iraq began observing the holy month of Ramadan. Shi'ites are to begin marking the holiday on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities say they have captured the leader of the militant group Ansar al-Sunnah. That group has claimed responsibility for several bombings and for beheading hostages.
Also, the U.S military says an American soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in northern Baghdad today. Officials in Denmark say one Danish soldier was killed and eight others wounded by a roadside bomb in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
