Burma's state run newspaper says delegates have begun arriving in Rangoon for next week's constitutional convention.
The report says delegates from Burma's northern Shan State arrived Tuesday and were taken to the site in Hmawby Township where the convention is scheduled to start again next week.
Convention chairman Lieutenant General Thein Sein has said he expects a thousand delegates - hand-picked by the military government - to report to the convention site outside Rangoon by October seventh. The meeting convenes October 10th.
Burma's government says the convention is a key part of what it calls its seven-stage "road map to democracy." But the opposition National League for Democracy has called it a "sham" and has refused to take part.
The convention was adjourned last January. It first convened in 1993.
