Scores of gunmen dressed as Iraqi police commandoes have kidnapped at least 100 people from a government building in Baghdad.
Police say the gunmen forced people at a research institute of the Higher Education ministry into about 20 vehicles and drove off today.
A short time later, Iraq's Higher Education Minister (Abid Dhiyab) suspended all classes at Baghdad's universities and complained that his requests for improved security had been ignored.
Officials say the gunmen seized both Sunnis and Shi'ites, indicating the attack was not a case of sectarian violence but a terrorist attack.
Later Tuesday in central Baghdad, Iraqi police say a car bomb blast killed at least 10 people and wounded 25 others.
In Ramadi, a Sunni insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad, medical officials say at least 20 people were killed in overnight violence.
