Former members of Nepal's parliament have called on the United Nations to pass a resolution on the human rights situation in Burma.
Meeting in Kathmandu, the former lawmakers submitted a memo to a local U.N. official demanding that members of the Security Council call for democratic transformation in Burma through dialogue.
The memo also calls for the release of all of Burma's political prisoners and a process for national reconciliation.
A member of Burma's parliament-in-exile is in Kathmandu meeting with Nepalese officials to discuss the situation in Burma.
Last week, the United States began circulating a draft resolution in the Security Council calling on Burma's government to improve the human rights situation in the country.
