Canada's Foreign Minister, Peter MacKay, has urged the UN Security Council to adopt a draft resolution addressing the human rights situation in Burma.
In a statement Tuesday, MacKay said Burma continues to show its disregard for international human rights standards.
He also said Burma's military-led government is unwilling to engage constructively with the international community.
MacKay said it is important that the Burmese government address human rights violations and restore democracy. He said a UN Security Council resolution on Burma would help make that happen.
The Burmese government says a Security Council resolution would threaten the country's stability.
