The Burmese military is reported to have launched a massive campaign against a northeastern Indian separatist group operating from northern Burma.
A spokesman for a faction of the rebel National Socialist Council of Nagaland says Burmese troops armed with heavy weapons began the assault three days ago. The rebel spokesman says there were no casualties.
There was no immediate confirmation of the assault from Burma, which shares a 1600-kilometer border with India.
The National Socialist Council of Nagaland is fighting for an independent tribal homeland in India's Nagaland. Burma has assured New Delhi that the military government will not let Indian rebels operate from Burmese soil.
