Burma Sentences 33 To Life In Prison For Human Trafficking

Burmese state media say a special court has sentenced 33 people to life imprisonment for human trafficking.

The state run newspaper, "New Light of Myanmar", says authorities rescued two women last July from a guesthouse in the northeastern Shan State, which led to the arrest of 64 suspected traffickers.

Burma passed anti-trafficking laws in 2005, but the US State Department says the government has made only minimal progress in prosecuting traffickers.
