Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has invited his Burmese counterpart to visit Tehran and expressed his hope that the two sides can boost cooperation.
Iranian state media said that during a meeting with Burma's deputy foreign minister U Kyaw Thu today, Mottaki expressed Tehran's desire to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy and to boost economic ties.
State media said the Burmese official echoed the interest in strengthening ties, and also noted Burma's desire to open an embassy in Tehran.
Iran and military-ruled Burma have long held diplomatic ties, but both countries have yet to officially open an embassy in either of their capitals.
