Officials in Burma say a senior North Korean official is expected to visit later this month for talks aimed at restoring bilateral relations between the two countries.
Officials said Saturday that North Korea will dispatch a foreign ministry official to Burma's new administrative capital, Nay Pyi Taw.
The North Korean diplomat is expected to discuss the possible resumption of diplomatic ties.
Burma broke off diplomatic relations with North Korea in 1983, after North Korean agents set off a bomb in Rangoon that killed 17 visiting South Korean officials, including four cabinet ministers.
