The United Nations said Monday Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special advisor on Burma arrived in Singapore on the first leg of an Asian trip that will also take him to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Ibrahim Gambari is scheduled to meet with senior government officials at each stop.
When he appointed Gambari special advisor in May, Mr. Ban issued a statement saying he looks forward to the cooperation of the Burmese government and other parties in making progress toward the restoration of democracy and the protection of human rights.
