Burma's military government says it freed six more political prisoners on Friday, including a prominent opposition politician.
The release came one week after opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi made another appeal for the release of all political prisoners.
Included among the new group was Aye Thar Aung, 58, a member of the ethnic minority Arakan League for Democracy. He was sentenced in 2000 to 21 years in jail.
Officials say Aye Thar Aung was freed on humanitarian grounds. He has been hospitalized for liver cancer.
