UN envoy Razali Ismail met with Burma's leader Senior General Than Shwe Thursday on November 14 in an effort to revitalize a stalled reconciliation process.
The meeting was also attended by junta number-two Deputy Senior General Maung Aye and number-three General Khin Nyunt. The meeting lasted 15 minutes, indicating that little was achieved.
U Lwin, General Secretary and spokesman for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, said the UN General Assembly and the Secretary General Kofi Annan should take a major role because Razali is only a facilitator of the process.
Aung Moe Zaw, General Secretary of an exiled National Council of Union of Burma, said international community must continue to exert more pressure on the junta.
A Rangoon resident expressed his pessimism regarding Mr. Razali's mission. Dr. Zarni, a democracy activist described Mr. Razali's role as minimal.
