Opposition Reacts to SPDC Press Conference - 2003-02-18

At a press conference held on February 10th, the Burmese military government spokesperson, Brigadier General Than Tun, accused the Washington, D.C. based National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) of supplying weapons to "an armed National League for Democracy (NLD) terrorist camp".

The SPDC spokesperson named democracy activist Ko Aung Saw Oo as "belonging to the expatriate NCGUB". The NCGUB issued a statement on February 13th that strongly denied the charges and called on the military government stop making false accusations.

Dr. Sein Win, Prime Minister of NCGUB, reiterated that his organization strictly adhered to its policy of peace and non-violence. Ko Aung Saw Oo also denied that he was a NCGUB member and challenged the military government to produce evidence for their allegations.
