A top official in Burma's military government has accused some Western governments of ignoring the country's progress in the fight against narcotics.
Burmese media report that General Khin Nyunt told a special meeting focusing on drug elimination that some members of the international community still regard Burma as a country that does not cooperate with anti-narcotics efforts.
He says Western leaders have largely ignored Burma's progress in its drug eradication campaign.
He added that Burma would continue the fight against illegal poppy cultivation and will strive to eradicate drugs by 2014.
The United Nations International Narcotics Control Board has identified Burma as the world's leading opium producer.
