The leader of Burma's military government has accused what he called "neo-colonialists" of trying to discredit and bring down the country.
In a May Day message published by Burma's state-run newspapers, General Than Shwe said the neo-colonialists were using human and labor rights to discredit Burma and break up what he called "national unity."
General Than Shwe did not identify the neo-colonialists, but Western countries, human rights groups and the United Nations have repeatedly criticized Burma's military government for human rights violations and repressing basic freedoms.
