A London-based human rights organization says Europe's sixth largest travel company will stop operating in Burma at the end of this year.
The Burma Campaign UK said in a statement Wednesday that travel company, Kuoni, announced it will not offer holidays to Burma in 2004 because of recent events in Asia and low public demand. The rights group quotes a Kuoni official as saying it expects to resume operations in Burma when democracy is restored in the country.
A Burma Campaign spokeswoman said Kuoni's move will mean less money for the country's military government. Burma is the subject of a tourism boycott. Democracy movement leader Aung San Suu Kyi has called for tourists to stay away.
