Japan's former prime minister, Yoshiro Mori, has concluded a three-day visit to Burma that included a meeting with military ruler Senior General Than Shwe and other government leaders.
News agencies in the region say Mr. Mori spent one hour with Than Shwe and delivered a personal letter in which Japan's current prime minister, Junichiro Koizumi, presses for economic reforms and democratization. Mr. Mori also met with Burma's chief of military intelligence, General Khin Nyunt, and Foreign Minister Win Aung.
Japan is Burma's biggest aid donor.
