U.S. Congress Members Condemn Regime's Harassment On Aung San Suu Kyi - 2003-05-25

VOA Burmese service interviewed Washington–based Free Burma Coalition Director Ko Aung Din on the group’s press release Friday (5/23) regarding leading members of the United States Congress Peter King (R-NY) and Michael Capuano (D-MA) this week condemning Burmese military regime’s harassment on Democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her supporters during her recent Kachin state trip.

In the most serious incident in Bhamo town , members of the regime's political arm, the Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA) stopped Aung San Suu Kyi's motorcade and beat on the doors and windows, wielding machetes and sticks.

Ko Aung Din said, “Rep. Peter King, is a Republican member of the influential International Relations Committee and Chairman of the Financial Services subcommittee that overseas the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

"Both he and Capuano emphasized that the harassment on Suu Kyi and her supporters by the Burmese military has been ongoing and the statements by the leading members of both parties reflect increasing Congressional frustration with the Burmese regime," Ko Aung Din added.
