European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana has joined other world leaders in condemning the detention of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi by Burma's military government.
Mr. Solana says the Nobel laureate's detention confirms what he called the lack of interest in Burma's military government to democracy. He said the detention justifies the European Union's policy of sanctions against the military government.
Mr. Solana also called for Aung San Suu Kyi's immediate release from custody, as well as the re-opening of offices run by her National League for Democracy.
