In our Friday’s Weekly Women’s Corner program Staffer Hla Hla Than interviewed Dr. Khin Saw Win, former personal physician of Burmese Democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Dr. Win , lecturer at Alberta University, Canada expressed deep concern regarding reports that the Nobel Peace Laureate suffered injuries during clashes between her supporters and the pro-government USDA members on May 30th.
Since Daw Aung San Suu Kyi , who is under protective custody of the Burmese military government has not been allowed to see anyone, Dr. Win pointed out that doctors attending her should abide by medical ethics which requires the presence of a family member near her and to obtain prior consent before administering any medical treatment .
Dr. Win hoped the U.N. Special Envoy , Razali Ismail , who is currently in Rangoon would be allowed to visit Daw Aung San Suu Kyi so that rumors about her injuries can be clarified.
She also hoped the local women’s associations in Burma , which have been actively campaigning on violence against women will act accordingly and express their concerns regarding the attack on DawAung San Suu Kyi , Daw Win Win Mya and other female NLD members who were reported to be injured.
