Hnin Thitsar was charged according to the Emergency Provision Act section 17 (1) and sentenced for 5 years in 1991. She was in a solitary confinement for four consecutive months.
Talking about lack of rights as a political prisoner, Hnin Thitsar said she had to sleep on a mat on the cold concrete floor and the cell infested with rats lacked proper sanitation.
When asked about unconfirmed reports of Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi being detained in Insein prison, Hnin Thitsar replied since she had suffered a lot she would not like to see anybody go through her experience as a political prisoner.
