Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathi has returned from a one-day visit to Singapore, during which he held talks with his counterpart, S. Jayakumar.
Mr. Surakiart said in a statement that the two agreed the Association of Southeastern Nations should play a key role in pushing for national reconciliation in Burma.
On Monday, U.N. envoy to Burma Razali Ismail met with Mr. Surakiart in Bangkok to discuss a Thai plan for democratic reform in Burma. The U.N. diplomat said after the talks that he would do everything possible to persuade the junta to accept it.
Most of the details of the plan are being kept secret, but it will include an international forum to discuss solutions for reforms in Burma.
