VOA has learned from a reliable source in Rangoon that the new Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt will make a major policy statement at the Pyithu Hluttaw (National Assembly) building on the country's future Saturday.
The source says the statement will break new ground--or as he puts it--"be highly positive--more than anyone has expected."
The source also says the government has been holding "frequent discussions" with detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in the run up to this pronouncement.
There is no word from the opposition confirming or denying this.
The source says the government has summoned all military commanders to assemble in Rangoon in time for release of this Statement.
