Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen says he will call on Burma to release opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi if the subject of her detention comes up at next week's summit of regional leaders on the Indonesia island of Bali.
Mr. Hun Sen told reporters today (Thursday) that if there are talks about it, Cambodia will push for reforms in Burma, especially the release of Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is scheduled to meet in Bali on October seventh and eighth. ASEAN members have long avoided commenting on each other's internal affairs.
However, the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi is seen as an issue that could hurt the regional grouping's credibility.
