Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad says he has expressed Malaysia's view on Burma's detention of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to Burmese prime minster.
Mr. Mahathir met with Prime Minister Khin Nyunt on the sidelines of an ASEAN summit in Bali, Indonesia.
The Malaysian leader said he had offered to do whatever Malaysia could do to help Burma in its democratization process. He did not elaborate on his talks with the Burmese official.
Mr. Mahathir had criticized Rangoon following its arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi, suggesting that Burma should be ejected from ASEAN if it refused to release the Nobel laureate.
