At least eight illegal Burmese migrants were killed in a truck crash in Thailand Friday, and eight others were injured.
Police say 16 illegal workers paid a smuggler to drive them across the border to Bangkok. Authorities said the pickup overturned on a curve in the Mae Chan border district when the driver panicked and sped through a police checkpoint.
Seven people were found dead at the scene. The French news agency reports that two women died later at the hospital.
Police are still searching for the Thai driver, who escaped after the crash.
