Three Burmese Fishermen Mudered In Thailand - 2003-11-16

Authorities in Thailand say three Burmese fishermen have been stabbed to death in two separate incidents.

Police in Bangkok say the young men, all in their 20's, were killed overnight Friday in the Khanon district in Nakhon Sri Thammarat province.

Eyewitnesses said all three had been drinking (alcoholic beverages) and were believed to have been drunk when the fights broke out.

The first victim died on the way to a hospital of multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Two other unidentified fishermen also died of multiple stab wounds in another fight incident in the same area. The assailants escaped in a fishing boat.

The Thai government says there are more than one million illegal workers in Thailand, most coming from Burma. The workers usually take poor-paying, menial jobs in factories, agriculture or fishing.
