An International rock star and a U.S. Senator are urging the United States, the United Nations and the European Union to pressure Burma to free detained democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
In an open letter to the international community, Bono, lead singer of (rock group) U-2, and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky call for trade and political sanctions against Burma's military government.
Bono and Senator McConnell say Aung San Suu Kyi is a modern icon of moral courage, and they say she needs unwavering, uncompromising international support if democracy is to return to Burma.
