Some of Burma's ethnic groups say the government's plan for a political transition will not result in democracy.
A statement issued by the groups was distributed to news organizations. It says delegates from 25 ethnic groups met over the past few days to consider Rangoon's so-called road map to democracy.
The statement says the road map will not lead to democracy in Burma and will only sustain a military dictatorship there. It says the ethnic groups plan to launch their own road map.
The government's plan was announced late last year by Prime Minister Khin Nyunt. A national convention is planned for later this year to draw up a new constitution.
