Palestinian doctors say a senior member of the militant group, Islamic Jihad, has died from wounds suffered in an Israeli missile strike in Gaza City.
Witnesses say an Israeli helicopter gunship destroyed the car carrying Aziz al-Shami Saturday. The attack also killed a 12-year old boy and wounded nine other people.
Israel has tried to kill Mr. al-Shami before and holds him responsible for killing Israeli troops and planning terrorist attacks.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia condemned Saturday's strike as an escalation of violence.
Meanwhile, an Israeli military court in Gaza City charged four Palestinians with involvement in a bomb attack that killed three American guards last year. U.S. officials had offered a reward of up to five million dollars for information on the incident.
Palestinian security officials say some of the suspects are part of a rogue militant group known as the Popular Resistance Committee.
In other developments, at least 300 members of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement resigned to protest corruption and lack of reforms within the movement.
