Democracy activists in Britain have accused the European Union of helping to prop up the ruling military in Burma.
A statement Tuesday from the London-based Burma Campaign U.K. accused the EU of failing to use its economic muscle to promote democracy in Burma. The activist group said that although the countries of Europe have positioned themselves as opponents of the Burmese military, EU direct investment in Burma has actually risen.
The Burma Campaign U.K. urged tourists not to visit Burma.
EU officials declined comment on the group's accusations.
