Burma's military government has allowed a popular Western magazine featuring an article on detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to go on sale in Rangoon.
The March issue of the Asian edition of Reader's Digest features a lengthy article on the Nobel laureate titled "The Soul of the Nation." The article, which features three photographs of Aung San Suu Kyi, contains language critical of Burma's military government. Witnesses say the magazine quickly sold out at several Rangoon bookstores.
Burma's military government has long been criticized for suppressing press freedom, and has frequently censored material on Aung San Suu Kyi and the pro-democracy opposition.
