Burmese Service Sends Burmese New Year Greetings to Listeners - 2004-04-17

In line with the Burmese cultural tradition, Voice of America Burmese Service family members send heartiest Burmese New Year greetings to all its listeners the world over. This year the Burmese new year falls on April 17.

In his new year message, Service Chief U Khin Maung Htay thanks the listeners for their support, constructive criticism and suggestions for better programming.

He also said 2004 VOA calendars have been sent to many listeners and the Service is now coping with more letters from more listeners requesting for the calendars.

As a promotional gift, the Service is now ready to give away nearly 1,700 Oxford English Dictionaries to listeners in Burma by lottery through the Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy in Rangoon.

Listeners are requested to write to VOA Burmese Service, 581 Merchant Street, Rangoon for the dictionaries.

They should write their name and address on the top left hand corner of the envelope IN BURMESE only and in bold letters in the top middle the words: Dictionary Giveaway so as to differentiate them from ordinary audience mail.

In their letters to VOA Burmese Service, the listeners are also requested to tell us the airshows they listen to and on what frequencies, whether they do tune in on Medium Wave and whether or not the reception is good or poor as well as the program or programs they like best. All suggestions are also welcome.
