A memorial ceremony for Brig. General Orde Wingate was held today (Sunday) at the Arlington Cemetery. General Wingate died 60 years ago today (1944) in plane crash while he and his famed "Chindits" special forces were fighting the occupying Japanese forces in Burma.
The "Chindits" operated deep behind enemy lines in North Burma and for many months they lived in and fought the enemy in the jungles of Japanese occupied Burma, totally relying on airdrop for their supplies.
Among other speakers Bo Hla Tint of NCGUB paid tribute to Gen. Wingate in helping liberate Burma.
