Arabic satellite television stations have broadcast two videotapes of Iraqi militants holding hostages and threatening to behead them within days, unless Iraqi prisoners are set free.
Late Sunday, al-Jazeera showed a videotape of a blindfolded man in military fatigues and an identification card indicating he is a U.S. Marine, Wassef Ali Hassoun. Mr. Hassoun's family in the United States has confirmed his identity.
U.S. military officials said the Marine had been missing from his unit since June 21st.
Another video aired by al-Arabiya television showed four hooded gunmen standing behind a man described as a Pakistani and threatening to execute him, unless U.S. forces free Iraqi prisoners. The hostage was shown with an identification card issued by an American company.
