13 Insurgents Killed in Iraq Clash - 2004-07-25

U.S. military officials in Iraq say 13 insurgents have died in clashes near the town of Baquba, north of Baghdad.

The officials say Iraqi National Guardsmen and police killed the insurgents after coming under fire today (Sunday), as they helped U.S. forces search for militants who had been firing mortars just south of Baquba (near the town of Buhriz).

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry says two Pakistanis may be the latest of a growing number of kidnap victims in Iraq. Officials in Islamabad say the two men, who were working for a Kuwaiti company, have been missing since Friday.

In another development, Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi is in Lebanon for security talks. He arrived in Beirut today from Damascus, where he met with top Syrian officials.
