Thailand has expressed its willigness to restart the so called "Bangkok Process" in a hope to bring about rapid political progress in Burma. Burma has yet to respond the Thai Foreign Minister's proposal.
Thailand is calling for the 12 nation conference at the behest of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, said Dr. Thaung Htun, the Foreign Affairs official of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma.
U Myint Thein, joint Secretary of the National Council of Union of Burma said lack of progress in political reconciliation in Burma as well as a deadlock between European Union and ASEAN over Burma's participation in Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) prompted Thailand's call for the conference.
