Burma's military government has criticized a U.S. Senator who has demanded that the United Nations Security Council take action against Burma.
Senator Mitch McConnell introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate Monday that calls on the U.N. Security Council to respond to the growing threats posed by Burma's government to its neighbors and the region.
He said if the United Nations takes up the Burma issue, significant strides will be made toward democracy and justice in the country.
Burma's military government accused Mr. McConnell of, in its words, "grandstanding," saying all he wanted to do was gain attention to himself.
The United States has frequently criticized Burma's military government for its poor human rights and anti-democracy records.
