Outgoing Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri has asked her countrymen to accept the results of last month's presidential election.
Ms. Megawati's tearful comments came one day after Indonesian election officials declared Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono the winner of the September 20 vote.
In an indirect concession speech delivered on the occasion of armed forces day today (Tuesday), Ms. Megawati said whoever won the election must be accepted by the Indonesian people, because it is, in her words, a "victory for all of us."
Mr. Yudhoyono, who attended the ceremony, praised Ms. Megawati's remarks.
Meanwhile, a member of Ms. Megawati's campaign team says it is considering an appeal to Indonesia's Constitutional Court over alleged irregularities at some ballot stations. However, the number of votes in question would not change the final outcome.
