Cambodia's throne council has chosen Prince Norodom Sihamoni as the country's new king.
He will be crowned October 29, after returning to Phnom Penh with his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, who surprised the nation last week by announcing his abdication for health reasons.
Cambodia's monarchy is not hereditary, but King Sihanouk recommended Prince Sihamoni because he has not been involved in Cambodian politics.
Another son, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, is the head of the country's royalist political party and the head of the national assembly. He said he would rather stay in politics than become king.
