Early voting begins in Florida today (Monday) -- more than two weeks before the official U.S. election day November second.
Campaigning in Florida Sunday, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry called on his supporters to get out and vote as soon as possible.
Four years ago, confusion over Florida ballots and recounts delayed the outcome of the U.S. presidential race for 36 days.
Mr. Kerry cited a report in the New York Times newspaper quoting President Bush as saying, if re-elected, he would privatize Social Security -- the U.S. federal program for retirees -- in a "January surprise." Mr. Kerry said this would mean decreased benefits for senior citizens.
The White House says the story is inaccurate. But the Republican incumbent has advocated allowing people to privatize their Social Security retirement accounts as a way of building wealth.
